“Learn to love humility, for it will cover all your sins.

All sins are repulsive before God, but the most repulsive of all is pride of the heart. Do not consider yourself learned and wise; otherwise, all your efforts will be destroyed, and your boat will reach the harbor empty.” St Anthony the Great

On this day, of the year 355 A.D., St. Anthony the Great, the star of the wilderness, and the father of all monks, departed. He began his ascetic journey and founded monasticism upon hearing the Lord’s words during the reading of the Holy Gospel in church, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven; and come, follow Me” (Matthew 19:21). When he heard about the persecutions in Alexandria, he would leave his abode in the mountains and travel to strengthen this imprisoned, but none of the persecutors dared to lay a hand on him. Saint Anthony lived for 105 years, struggling in the way of holiness and purity, and discipling many. Until this day, monastics continue in the journey that he established.
May His prayers and blessings be with us all.
